Purpose

The purpose of CSSM Ministries is to present and promote the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, primarily to the otherwise unreached in Canada, to the end that the lost shall be evangelized, and that Christian believers shall be taught and strengthened in the faith.

To accomplish this, the Mission establishes, develops and promotes those ministries that, under the blessing and direction of God, most adequately will fulfill the stated purpose. Some of those ministries are briefly described below.

 History

bullet1927 - The Canadian Sunday School Mission (CSSM) was founded on March 8 as an interdonominational faith mission by Rev. J. Lloyd Hunter. Pioneer work started in rural Manitobia.
bullet1928 - First CSSM camp.
bullet1929 - Work expanded to Saskatchewan and Northwest Ontario.
bullet1930 - Expanded to Alberta.
bullet1937 - Rev. D. R. Aikenhead succeeded Rev. Hunter as National Director.
bullet1941 - Expanded to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
bullet1944 - Expanded to British Columbia and Prince Edward Island.
bullet1946 - Expanded to Quebec.
bullet1949 - Expanded throughout Ontario.
bullet1950 - Expanded to Newfoundland.
bullet1963 - Lawrence McAllister succeeded Rev. Aikenhead as National Director.
bullet1985 - Orval Janz succeeded Mr. McAllister as National Director.

Our ministries continue to expand within Canada as we seek to reach the otherwise unreached. To the glory of God, ten of thousands of known professed conversions in Canada have been reported since 1927. The efforts are being felt around the world as many of these converts serve the Lord as missionaries and church leaders.

Articles of Faith and Doctrine

We believe in:

(A.) The Divine inspiration and consequent authority of the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. By the term "Divine inspiration" we mean the truthfulness and authority of both the Old and New Testament Scriptures in their entirety as the only written Word of God, without error in all that it affirms in the original manuscripts and the only infallible rule of faith and practice.

(B.) The doctrine of the Trinity, one God revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect.

(C.) The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His miraculous conception, humanity, miracles, bodily resurrection, ascension and return.

(D.) The personality of the Holy Spirit whose ministry is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.

(E.) The total depravity of man who was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are incapable of pleasing God, and in the case of those who reach moral responsibility become culpable sinners, utterly lost, and only through being born again, through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, in whom we have redemption through His blood, can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

(F.) The resurrection of the body, the eternal life of the saved, the eternal punishment of the lost; after death all men continue in conscious existence, the believers being "absent from the body but present with the Lord," the lost in everlasting conscious torment.

(G.) The personality of Satan as a created being and an adversary of God.

Finances

CSSM Ministries is a faith Mission, supported by freewill offerings and contributions of churches, groups and individuals. The need of the work is constantly laid before God in prayer, and information concerning the work is circulated among God's people. All personnel recognize their dependence on God, not on any organization, and trust the Lord to meet their needs.

All contributions for the furtherance of the ministries and objectives of the Mission are acknowledged by an official receipt valid for income tax purposes. All monies received are under the control of the Mission, and are received and receipted at any of the various offices.

Gifts for the support of a missionary are payable to CSSM Ministries and are sent to the Mission office in the Branch where the missionary is stationed. A receipt for income tax purposes is then issued to the donor. All monies are transmitted after necessary deductions.

The books of the Mission are audited annually, and a copy of the auditor's statement is available upon request.

Vancouver Mission Fest 2008

A big THANKS to all who helped to create our display!

We found that many people felt drawn to walk through and interact.

We had reps from five of our six bible camps serving at the booth

People could sit at one of two media tables to watch camp videos

Thanks to each one who came out to help throughout the weekend!
